Rivers and Streams

...of sweat run down my back, forehead, neck, legs...ok, way too much information. But I'm only telling the truth. With a heat index of 108 degrees, it's just stifling. I know a lot of you are experiencing your own heat waves, but just indulge me for a few seconds while I whine. After one of the soggiest Junes on record, July has just been "more of the same." Sunshine, sunshine, sunshine, with very few showers, which are what help cool the ground and hence drop temperatures a few notches. But, alas...is it September yet?

Two weeks ago I went to Cape Canaveral with the goal of seeing the Discovery lift off into space. As we all know, that didn't happen. I went the night before, parked alongside the Indian river and slept in my car. I never recommend doing that, unless it's like once every five years or so, because you're definitely not going to get a good night's sleep. However, I wasn't the only one who did that, so I was in good company. By the time mid-morning rolled around, there was an estimated 240,000 people crowded around the cape. Where I was situated was around 10 miles from launch pad 39b, as the pelican flies. The night before I could see the pad lit up, so I knew I had my camera pointed in the right direction. I did manage some sleep that night, and it was really cool to see a reddish-orange sun come up over the water. Tomorrow night, I will make a second pilgramage to Canaveral with the hopes that all goes well and I will have the opportunity to witness a space shuttle lift off into space.

It's been spotty, the postings here, only because my current life has taken a rather mundane schedule day in day out. Can you believe I've been in Florida for a year now? Seems too much like yesterday that I was still enjoying an academic calendar in Michigan! That's ok, I try to make the most of each day as much as possible.

On the nightstand for reading...Coldest March, Millionaire Women Next Door, and How to Win Friends and Influence People.

The breeze is wafting in, I'd better take advantage of it before it all but dissipates...cheerio!
