On the road again

I've been galavanting around the this grand land of ours. The third week of this month I spent in Dallas, TX. You know those stereotypical pix of Texan women in either commercials or in printed material? The ones with the big, blond hair, rosy pink blush, bright eye shadow, Texas twang? I met one. She was the nicest lady, though. I just find it amusing to have actually run into a stereotype. My first introduction to Texas was several years ago, when I went through the top part, Amarillo. Flatter than a flapjack. Dallas? At least there are a few bumps in the road, but still relatively flat. And downtown Dallas is pretty small, too. I hadn't given much thought prior to the amount of money that's in Dallas. Wow! Lots of old oil money. DFW airport is rife with all these little charter planes jetting rich folk hither and yon. And if you're in the market for a luxury car, Dallas is the place to look for one because it has a huge selection from which to choose. People who live in other parts of Texas come to Dallas to look for one simply because of the greater variety.

Last week was spent in the greater Los Angeles area. Flew out last Sunday evening and sat next to a child actor who plays on "Everybody Hates Chris". You could tell he lived a very structured life. For being only 8 or 9 years of age, he was well-mannered, well-behaved, and of all the tv channels we could watch, he was watching the Food Network! The weather in L.A. was just awful. Cloudy, soupy, all out dreary. There was only one day where the sun shone, and even then it wasn't for the entire duration. Having said that, it was still nice to be back home :).

Finished reading a book last night - 1776 by David McCullough. It chronicles what transpired during the year of Independence, not only from the American soil, but light is also shed on the British view of the "rebels" in America. The book was a great read, read half of it on the plane to L.A., and finished it in bed last night. For all you history buffs, this is one to add to the collection. Now, I've got to decide what I should read next. Got three bookcases packed with books. Which brings me to a thought...I am at the point where I need to get another bookcase. I've got books lying on top of books in the bookcases. It just doesn't look right. Hmmm...will have to watch for sales. Need to make sure I get the same brand and color as the three I currently have. Gotta match, you know.

By now you should've set your clocks back. Tuesday is November. Unbelievable. Time put up the autumn decor and dig out the Christmas tunes.

Where have all the flowers gone....
